Completing the Vision: The Frieze Project
The Missing Masterpiece
When the Greek Cultural Garden was dedicated in 1940, sculptor Andrew A. Tagaris designed an ambitious centerpiece: a magnificent stone frieze, entitled “The Gift of Greece to Civilization,” inspired by the Parthenon, with the figures of 34 illustrious Greek philosophers, scientists, artists, and poets. But the sculptural frieze was never completed.
Now, we’re finishing what was started. The Frieze will transform the Parthenon Wall into the living monument it was always meant to be. A testament to Greece’s eternal gift to civilization and a source of inspiration for generations to come.
Meet the Master Stone Carver
Nicholas Fairplay
In November 2022, we commissioned acclaimed Master Stone Carver Nicholas Fairplay to create the Frieze. Working from the 1937 vision of sculptor Andrew A. Tagaris, Fairplay is crafting 34 individual figures that honor ancient Greek artistic traditions while standing as contemporary works of art.
The process: researching historical depictions, creating clay models, refining every detail to capture the essence of each figure, and ensuring the Frieze integrates seamlessly with the existing 1940 Parthenon Wall architecture.
